Job Description: 

This position is a part time, exempt staff position. The employee will work for 12 months of the year. The hired employee will report to Director of Finance and Operations. The school nurse supports student success by providing health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up for all students within the school setting. The school nurse works to create a professional environment to include online database, paperwork and coordination with other departments as needed.

Job Details:
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Develop plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care
-Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings
-Monitor/document immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment as to prevent injury and ensure safety
-Maintain student medical records, both hard copy and electronic, to include athletic assessments, physicals and required forms
-Monitor & consult with facilities manager on infection control measures
-Participate in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school
-Part of the emergency response team (while on campus)
-Responsible for coordinating medical information/release for all off campus events
-Responsible for medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans
-Comply with all HIPPA rules and regulations and stay up to date on changes
-Stay up to date with new rules and regulations that effect SMCA and recommend to supervisor changes as needed
-Delegate healthcare tasks when needed as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Required Experience, Degree and Skills:
-Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required
-Current Texas RN licensure, with no disciplinary actions
-Strongly encouraged to have 3 or more years of experience dealing with children and adolescents
-Positive attitude towards students, staff and faculty
-Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (written and verbal)
-Exceptional organization, time management and prioritization skills
-Strong computer literacy and experience with electronic medical records
