Each month, Pope Francis asks the world to join him in prayer for a specific intention. This month, our Holy Father prays that the Church remain, “ever faithful to, and courageous in, preaching the Gospel” so that we may “be a community of solidarity, fraternity and welcome…”
As we in the Diocese of Austin approach our 75th Anniversary celebration and, together with all dioceses across the country, go deeper into the Eucharistic Revival, Pope Francis’ prayer expresses some of the qualities of a local church that makes us one through the Eucharist. Every time the Eucharist is celebrated in our churches, missions, and schools, we are made one in Christ. This encounter strengthens us to preach Good News to those we know and opens our hearts to those searching for God.
This week, as we are called to support World Mission Sunday, we do so in solidarity with all people of goodwill across the world. Sharing what we have with the world makes friends of strangers and creates a culture of welcome. Our response to the call to advance the mission of the Church is by proclaiming Christ through the Eucharist and the Word of God and by giving generously to the collection to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
May the Holy Spirit continue to guide us on our journey of supporting the mission of the Church here in the Diocese of Austin and throughout the world.
