Please join me in a prayer of thanksgiving for the successful passage of SB4 – the chemical abortion bill recently passed by the Texas Legislature. I am grateful for the many lives saved from the mental and physical anguish of a drug-induced abortion. The long term scars on our society need healing and we can only begin to heal by protecting the life of the most vulnerable – our unborn children.
Today, the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops shared a
joint statement on the Heartbeat Law which the Supreme Court has allowed to stand while the lower courts navigate to what is certain to be prolonged litigation. Respecting and protecting the life of mothers and their unborn child are central values of our Catholic faith. Together let us ask the Immaculate Heart of Mary to intercede for our world so that every life is cherished and treated with dignity.
If you are a woman or man struggling with an unplanned pregnancy, there are many programs to help you with this stage in your life’s journey, including the Diocesan Help Line at 1-877-932-2732.
Sincerely in Christ,
+Most Reverend Joe S. Vásquez
Bishop of Austin
