Christ the King Parish in Belton will host a celebration of the Red Mass on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Sang Quan will con-celebrate the Mass with clergy from the Killeen/Temple deanery. All parishioners are encouraged to participate in this sacred occasion as we invoke the blessing of the Holy Spirit, praying guidance for judges, lawyers and those in the legal profession. The church is located at 210 E. 24th Ave., Belton. A reception will follow in the Christus Center. For more information, call (254) 939-0806. The Red Mass was first celebrated at Westminster Cathedral in England during the reign of Edward I in around 1310. It is called the “Red Mass” because the clergy are vested in red, and originally, the high court judges were robed in red. The first Red Mass in the United States occurred in 1928 at Old St. Andrew’s Church in New York City; now members of the Supreme Court, Congress and the Executive Branch, both Catholic and non-Catholic, attend Red Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
