Ecclesial Movements as Agents of a New Evangelization

“Ecclesial movements” is a collective term for many volunteer groups and associations that have risen within the Church. They offer the possibility of going beyond boundaries to broaden the horizons of mission and ministry. Ecclesial movements can give members more opportunities to connect with others, share their gifts, and receive support for living a Christian life. Their membership is mainly or exclusively lay, providing valuable formation for the laity and giving them the chance to exercise leadership, often on a large scale.

Hispanic Ecclesial Movements and Communities

Experience the Hispanic/Latino culture through prayer, song and community. Below are organizations that serve Hispanics/Latinos and exist throughout the Diocese of Austin.

• ACTS weekend is designed to help the retreatants enter into a new or deeper relationship with our Lord and our fellow parishioners. This is accomplished through fellowship and daily prayer, the call to community in one's parish as a member of the Body of Christ, and theology in encouraging the study of scripture and our Catholic Faith.

• Mission: Serve the Church in its evangelizing mission to the world through conferences, retreats, missions, courses, and seminars. This service includes the training of Catholic evangelists for the Church and the world today.

• Diocese of Austin Conference of Guadalupana Societies promotes in its members, a deeper knowledge of their faith and the Doctrine of the Church, a greater understanding of liturgical life, and a fervent devotion to our Lady of Guadalupe.

• Austin Rosary Crusade promotes praying the rosary daily for peace and often takes the Church to people who don’t normally attend.

• Cursillos in Christianity is a Movement which, by its Method, attempts from within the Church, to give life to the essential Christian truths in the singularity, originality and creativity of the person.

• The mission of Worldwide Marriage Encounter is to proclaim the value of Marriage and Holy Orders in the Church and in the world.

• The movement is a group of Catholic families that unite their efforts to promote the human and Christian values of the family and promote in the community: the formation of people, educators in the faith, aware of their evangelizing mission and committed to integral development of the community and the domestic church.

• Our Lady of Guadalupe Divine Mercy Center is one of 17 prayer centers within The Society of Prayer Centers of our Lady of Guadalupe, International. The center is dedicated to the Catholic evangelization and prayer ministries, which are bilingual. Ministries include the Divine Mercy Cenacles, family rosary, community prayer and spiritual direction.

• Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Austin bases its action on the strength of the Holy Spirit, which in constant action embodies its mission in two fundamental principles: a constant spirit of renewal in each member and in the entire movement, and a Constant Renewal in the spirit of God.

• In the Prayer and Life Workshops people are being taught to pray progressively and experimentally; introducing them to the liturgical prayer and sacramental life.
