Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints which is a Holy Day of Obligation.
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, says “The Solemnity of All Saints is ‘our’ celebration: not because we are good, but because the sanctity of God has touched our life. The Saints are not perfect models, but people through whom God has passed. “
On this day, we honor all men and women who have been welcomed by God into heaven and who the Church has canonized as saints. These saints placed God our Father at the center of their lives honoring him through prayer, preaching, teaching, caring for the needy and performing miracles. Some of them endured persecution and even martyrdom in the name of Christ. As we celebrate this feast at Mass, let us hold these men and women in prayer and ask for their intercession to lead us toward lives of holiness in service to others.
Tomorrow we celebrate the Feast of All Souls. “May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.”
