This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi Sunday. The source and summit of the Christian life, this celebration highlights the belief that in the Eucharist we come into the real presence of Christ. When the priest, who is in the person of Christ, pronounces the words, “This is my Body, this is my Blood,” the bread and wine become the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ.
Secular society may cause us to question or doubt our faith. Nonetheless, we must hold fast to the great gift we receive in the Eucharist – that God chooses to live in us while at the very same time we live and move and have our being in him (Acts 17:28).
Pope Francis said the Eucharist “is meant to nourish those who are tired and hungry along the journey.” Our diocesan journey of reviving our encounter with our Lord in the Eucharist begins tomorrow June 18. You are invited to join with the Mystical Body of Christ of this local church to pray, worship and walk with me as we bring the Blessed Sacrament onto the streets of Austin, showing the living Christ to those we encounter on our daily journeys.
