During this holy season of Lent, we enter a time of preparation looking forward to the joy of the Resurrection. We are invited to make the Lord’s journey our own by engaging in the three traditional Lenten pillars of Church teaching – prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Let us reflect on how prayer invites us to enter into a conversation with God, listening to the Word. Fasting physically makes us attentive to those who hunger and live lives deprived of the comforts of wealth; and, almsgiving helps us to turn our attention away from ourselves to become other-centered rather than self-centered.
Beyond these traditional pillars, together we seek to encounter the heart of Jesus so that he may heal our brokenness, our sorrows, and our loneliness; for it is only through his grace that we can become whole and new again. May the Lord Jesus Christ infuse each of you with his graces during these next 40 days so that as one People of God we will return to him with our whole hearts and come to know ourselves in serving others.
