Reverend Don Oliver Weerakkody, a Catholic priest for 52 years, died on January 25, 2018, in Sri Lanka at the age of 77. He was born on August 4, 1940 in Tudella, Sri Lanka to Don Johanes Weerakkody and Magelin Margaret (Perera) Weerakkody.

Rev. Robert R. Becker, a Catholic priest for 38 years, died on Jan. 25, 2018, in Kyle, Texas, at the age of 71. He was born on Nov. 9, 1946 in Dallas to Henry Becker and Frances Springman Becker.

Rev. Leonard Leddy, a Catholic priest for 58 years, died Jan. 16, 2018, in Waco at the age of 86. He was born on Nov. 11, 1931 in the parish of Annaduff, County Leitrim, Ireland to Michael Leddy and Catherine (Leyden) Leddy.

On Friday, January 11, Pope Francis published the Final Document of the Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. Beginning in January of 2017, the DIocese of Austin has participated in various ways in the stages of this process, culminating with the actual gathering of the Synod on Young People at the Vatican in October of 2018. May this document inform and transform our ministry as a Church with young people! As Pope Francis states, may we “pass on the joy of the Gospel to our Churches and to the whole world.”
