The USCCB Conference has been engaged with the Church in Ukraine in a special way since the beginning of the Russian attacks on the country. Through the Committee on National Collections’ Subcommittee on Aid to the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, and the national collection that funds its work, over $520,000 in support to church entities for humanitarian and pastoral needs has been provided. The Subcommittee will make additional grants this June and November and will continue to stand with and provide financial support to Ukraine during the current war and throughout the recovery work in the years ahead.
The Conference’s Church in Central and Eastern Europe program continues to be our internal program of support and it can receive contributions outside of the usual annual collection. Contributions to this fund will be distributed in response to grant applications submitted to the Subcommittee, as in the ordinary course. It is possible for contributions to this fund to be restricted so that they may be used to make grants only to Ukraine.
In addition, several US-based organizations are providing support to Ukraine and the surrounding regions:
• Aid to Church in Need
• Catholic Near East Welfare Association
• Catholic Relief Services
• The Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in America (created by the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, Eparchy of Stamford, Eparchy of Saint Nicholas in Chicago, and Eparchy of Saint Josaphat in Parma)
Thank you for your ongoing concern for our brothers and sisters in Ukraine and the surrounding region. Let us continue to pray for all those who are suffering from this violence and all those supporting them.
